CNY RPDB Completes Work on the Carrier Site Reuse Plan
The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board recently completed work on a comprehensive reuse plan for Carrier's 240 acre campus in the Onondaga County Town of DeWitt. The study was undertaken in July 2006 by a consultant team retained by the CNY RPDB that was led by CH2MHill/IDC Architects from Pittsburgh, PA. The study includes a set of recommendations that support the ongoing development of the campus as a Carrier global design center
and facilitate the reuse of vacant and underutilized property on the campus in a manner that would benefit the entire community.

Giovanni Food Company receives $100,000 Loan from CNY RPDB's Enterprise Development Fund
Giovanni Food Co., Inc, a Liverpool, NY-based food processing company, has received a $100,000 working capital loan from the CNY Enterprise Development Corp. The loan was part of a $300,000 project supporting the company’s operations in its new, 60,000 square foot facility. The firm manufactures a variety of tomato-based based products such as pasta and pizza sauces and sells private-label as well as branded products. The company is also a significant supplier to the USDA’s Food for Kids and Needy Families programs. Giovanni was founded nearly 70 years ago as a small family business in Oswego. The firm now employs over 40 people and expects the expansion to increase employment to over 60 within three years.
Over the past year, the CNY RPDB loan program has funded eight companies with loans totaling over $550,000 and leveraging an additional $3.5 million in financing. Over 250 jobs will be created or retained as a result of these projects going forward.

CNY RPDB to Prepare a Report on Onondaga Lake
The US Army Corp of Engineers contracted with the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board in August 2007 to prepare an Onondaga Lake Watershed Progress Assessment and Action Strategy Report. Work on the study is being done in cooperation with the Onondaga Lake Partnership. The study will include background information about the lake, an assesment of progress being made on implementation of the Onondaga Lake Management Plan, and recommendations for future actions.

CNY RPDB Sponsors Major Study of the Owasco Flats
As part of the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board's Finger Lakes Open Space and Land Conservation Program a study was recently completed for the Owasco Flats area in Cayuga County. The study, which was completed by the Finger Lakes Land Trust, consisted of a year long survey and includes a conservation plan for restoring the Owasco Inlet's capacity to filter water entering Owasco Lake.

CNY RPDB Receives Contract to Assist with the 2010 Census
The NYS Department of Economic Development has contracted with the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board to assist with preparations for the 2010 Census. Known as the Local Update of Census Addresses Program (LUCA), this US Census Bureau program is designed to give states an opportunity to help ensure there is an accurate population count in the 2010 Census. As part of this effort, NYS is contracting with regional planning boards across the state to work with local municipalities to update and ensure the accuracy of the Census Bureau's address list which provides the basis for the 2010 decennial census.

CNY RPDB Selected as the Central New York Energy Smart Communities Regional Coordinator
The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board was recently selected by the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to serve as the regional coordinator for the New York Energy Smart Communities program in Central New York. This NYSERDA program is designed to create networks of organizations that will assist in local efforts to promote energy efficiency and diversification of the energy resources of a regional . This program is part of a regional energy initiative being promoted by the CNY RPDB.

CNY RPDB Completes Strategic Plan for the Village of Phoenix
In April 2007 the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board completed work on a Strategic Plan for the Canal Waterfront in the Village of Phoenix. Funding for this project was provided by the village of Phoenix from a grant secured through the Governor's Office of Small Cities. This project was undertaken as part of the CNY RPDB's Canal Revitalization and Planning Program.

CNY RPDB Selects Eugene Saloga as the 2006 Reah Eckel Clark Citizenship Award Recipient

Eugene Saloga was named the recipient of the 22nd Annual Rhea Eckel Clark Citizenship Award at the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board's (CNY RPDB's) Annual Meeting held on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at the Syracuse Wyndham.
Mr. Saloga is a resident of the City of Oswego and an active member of his community. Prior to his retirement several years ago, he served as the Executive Assistant to City of Oswego Mayors Lazarek and Fitzgibbons, and has spearheaded many community revitalization initiatives in the city including such noteworthy projects as the Pontiac Hotel and St. Lukes senior citizen apartment complexes. Regionally, Mr Saloga helped bring vision and drive to the development of Oswego's waterfront, including Breitbeck Park overlooking the Oswego Harbor, and the development of the recreational opportunities associated with Wright's Landing and riverfront development projects. The development of these projects has been of benefit not only to the Oswego community but also to the region, by drawing people to Central New York and showing communities across the region the potential of their waterfront areas.
Mr. Saloga has served or worked on many local board and community development initiatives, and has served as supervisor for the 6th ward for the City of Oswego. From the early sixties until 1973 he was a member of the Oswego County Planning Board, and during that time he served on a county committee that was formed to help establish the CNY RPDB. His work is continuing today, helping to develop a veterans museum on the grounds of Fort Ontario in Oswego.
As an army air corp veteran of World War II, the Air National Guard, and the 1961 Berlin Crisis, Mr. Saloga has exhibited throughout his life the traits of a true community leader.
