Representation on the NARC Water Quality Priority Action Committee

As the New York State Association of Regional Council's (NYSARC) Statewide Water Resources Management Program Coordinator, the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNY RPDB) participated on the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) 2001 Water Quality Priority Action Committee (WQPAC). The purpose of this Committee was to provide guidance to NARC about:

  • regional council roles in water quality management across the country;
  • promoting the use of regional councils in water quality management;
  • regional issues needing to be addressed in national water quality legislation; and
  • wording to support continued regional council involvement in water quality management.

Accordingly, the CNY RPDB helped NARC develop a policy paper and correspondence to federal legislators to articulate regional issues of concern, such as using a comprehensive, watershed perspective to address water quality issues, coordinating wet weather programs, and supporting funding of the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

The CNY RPDB has participated on the NARC's Water Quality Committees consistently over the past several years.
